'🔔 “IATF is not merely an event, it is a trade revolution.”, Mrs. Kanayo Awani, Executive Vice-President, Intra-African Trade and Export Development, African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) From Nairobi in 1972 to Algiers in 2025, Africa’s vision of economic emancipation has been long in the making and today, that vision is taking form through the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF). At today’s IATF2025 Roadshow in Algiers, Mrs. Kanayo Awani delivered a compelling call to action: to dismantle colonial legacies of fragmented markets, and to place African goods, services, and innovation at the heart of global trade. 💬 “The Trade Fair is our collective statement that Africa will no longer be defined by extraction but by transformation and trade.” With over $100 billion in trade and investment deals, thousands of exhibitors, and participation from 130+ countries, the IATF is more than a marketplace — it is the engine of the #AfCFTA, driving value chains, accelerating industrialisation, and creating youth-centred economic opportunities. As Mrs. Kanayo Awani emphasised, Algeria is not just a host, it is a continental leader with the duty and potential to anchor Africa’s industrial future. From energy to agriculture, ICT to creative industries, Algeria is poised to lead Africa’s next economic leap. Now is the time for governments, financial institutions, startups, creatives, and SMEs to step forward. The shelf life of opportunity is short. Let’s trade in Africa. Let’s build the Africa we need. #IATF2025 #AfCFTA #TradeRevolution #KanayoAwani #Algeria #AfricaRising #MadeInAfrica #YouthInTrade #PanAfricanism #AfricanBusiness #Afreximbank #BuildTheAfricaWeNeed #Afreximbank

  • Accelerating China-Africa Trade through Financial Integration From just $10 billion at the dawn of the millennium to over $300 billion in 2023, China-Africa trade has expanded by an extraordinary 2,900%. China now accounts for 20% of Africa’s global trade up from just 5% two decades ago. While trade in goods has advanced rapidly, the same cannot be said for financial flows, which remain hindered by cross-border frictions, high settlement costs, and complex processes that limit the full potential of this vital economic partnership. That’s now changing. At the inaugural CIPS Exhibition on Bank-Enterprise Collaboration (CEBEC) in Shanghai, Afreximbank President Prof. Benedict Oramah signed the Direct Participation Agreement with the Cross-Border Interbank Payment System (CIPS). Afreximbank becomes one of the first African institutions to join CIPS directly ushering in faster, cheaper, and more autonomous yuan transactions. With CIPS already serving over 4,900 banking institutions in 187 countries and regions, Africa’s presence in this ecosystem ensures greater autonomy and inclusion in the evolving architecture of global finance. It also reinforces a shared vision with China to deepen financial connectivity, reduce reliance on the US dollar, intermediary banks and creates more balanced trade relations in an increasingly multipolar world. With Afreximbank at the forefront, Africa is no longer just trading with the world it’s redefining how trade is financed. #Afreximbank #Trade

🌟 Rethinking Africa’s Institutions for the Next Era - The Powerful Closing Session at The Africa Debate 2025 🌍 This week, The Africa Debate wrapped up a remarkable day of critical conversations with a powerful closing session that explored how Africa’s institutions must evolve for the next era of growth. The Fireside Chat, 'Rethinking Africa’s Institutions for the Next Era' convened two of Africa’s most influential leaders - Professor Benedict Oramah, President & Chairman of the Board of Directors at African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) and Strive Masiyiwa, Founder & Executive Chairman at Econet Group - for an unmissable discussion on how Africa’s institutions must evolve for the next era of growth. The session was warmly introduced by Gabriel Edgal, Chairman & Group CEO of Oakwood Green Africa, who, on behalf of Invest Africa Ltd, presented the Visionary Leadership Award for 2025 to Professor Oramah. Moderated by Invest Africa Ltd Chair, Karen Taylor, the conversation honoured Professor Oramah with a special tribute for his transformative leadership at African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) and decades of service advancing African integration and trade. Together with Strive Masiyiwa, they explored how Africa’s institutions can support the next generation of entrepreneurs, foster vibrant innovation ecosystems, mobilise regional capital for long-term prosperity, empower Africa’s fast-growing, digitally savvy youth, build future-ready infrastructure and financing vehicles, and nurture leadership that puts African priorities first. This session was a fitting close to a day dedicated to charting bold new pathways for a more competitive, resilient, and self-defined African future. A remarkable finale reminding us that Africa’s transformation will be built not just on resources, but on strong, adaptive institutions ready to lead in a changing world. #TheAfricaDebate2025 #TheAfricaDebate #InvestAfrica #InvestInAfrica #HarnessingNaturalCapitalForGrowth Gabriel Edgal | Prof. Benedict Oramah | Strive Masiyiwa | Karen Taylor

  • While in London for Invest Africa Ltd's Africa Debate 2025, Afreximbank President Prof. Benedict Oramah delivered a compelling vision for the future of Africa’s institutions, calling for bold, execution-driven leadership to drive inclusive growth and transformation. He was honoured with the 2025 Visionary Leadership Award for over 30 years of impact, championing African-led solutions across trade, industrialisation, and health. • Unleashing State Potential: A New Chapter in Nigeria’s Investment Readiness From 1–2 July 2025, Afreximbank and the Forum of State Investment Promotion Agencies of Nigeria (FoSIPAN) convened a landmark Investment Promotion Capacity Development Workshop in Abuja. Under the theme “Enhancing Subnational Investment Readiness and Project Structuring Capacity in Nigeria,” the workshop brought together leaders from all 36 states and the FCT to strengthen the institutions driving Nigeria’s economic transformation from the ground up. The Forum of State Investment Promotion Agencies of Nigeria (FoSIPAN) Chairman and Executive Secretary of BENIPA, Mr. Terhemen Johnpaul Kpenkaan, opened the workshop with a clear message - investment doesn’t land in a country; it lands in a state. He stressed that effective investment promotion begins with strong subnational capacity. Established earlier this year, FoSIPAN is already building momentum as Nigeria’s first coordinated platform for state-level investment agencies, offering technical support, policy alignment, and peer learning to scale impact nationwide. The keynote address by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON Chairman of the NGF SABER programme and Governor of Gombe State reinforced the urgency of action. He called on IPAs to become more than gatekeepers: to become builders of bankable projects, proactive partners to investors, and enablers of job-creating investments. For his leadership in championing reforms under SABER, Governor Yahaya was honoured with the Champion of Subnational Investment Reform Award. Over two days, participants took part in technical sessions led by Afreximbank and the Centre for International Trade Development (CITD), Miami. Topics ranged from project packaging and PPP structuring to FDI strategy and investor aftercare. States explored practical approaches to risk-sharing, deal structuring, and aligning with Afreximbank’s financing instruments, including Pan-African Payment & Settlement System - PAPSS, MANSA, and the African Trade Gateway. In her closing remarks, Mrs Cynthia Chukwukere of Afreximbank emphasised that the workshop was not an end but a beginning. She urged states to maintain the momentum, deepen their engagement with the Bank, and prepare to showcase investment-ready projects at IATF2025 in Algeria this September, Africa’s premier platform for trade and investment. This workshop marks a shift from aspiration to implementation. It signals a growing alignment between federal, state, and institutional actors, and a renewed focus on turning Nigeria’s investment potential into tangible outcomes. The path forward is clear: with stronger IPAs, smarter strategies, and deeper partnerships, Nigeria’s states are ready to lead from the front. #Afreximbank

  • Day 2 at the #AAM2025 was more than conversation, it was a declaration. Under the theme “Transforming Africa from Within,” leaders, thinkers, and changemakers delivered one resounding message: Africa’s future must be built and financed by Africa. The days of dependency are over. To unlock our true potential, we must strengthen and scale African multilateral financial institutions designed by us, for us. This isn’t just an economic imperative. It’s a matter of sovereignty, survival, and self-determination. We’re not waiting. We’re building. From within. #Afreximbank #AfCFTA #TransformingAfrica #BuildingTheFuture
