It was an honour to represent African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) at the inaugural AfCFTA Digital Trade Forum in Lusaka, where I had the pleasure of joining H.E. Wamkele Mene, Secretary General of the AfCFTA, and Emily Mburu-Ndoria , Director for Trade in Services, IP, Digital Trade, in a rich conversation on the creative economy and the promise of digital trade for Africa’s cultural industries. My key takeaways from the creatives panel: ➡️Digital trade is a gamechanger for Africa’s creative economy, enabling borderless transactions, global visibility, and new monetisation models for fashion, music, film, and design. ➡️Policy and platform convergence are critical. Strong IP frameworks, interoperable payment systems, and African-owned digital platforms must anchor this transformation. The AfCFTA IP Office is long overdue. ➡️Capacity building and infrastructure remain urgent. Africa’s young creative talent needs digital literacy, accessible tools, and regional marketplaces to compete globally. As Afreximbank, we remain deeply committed to supporting Africa’s creatives through CANEX, driving financing, platform development, and market access for the creative and cultural economy. Our Pan-African Payment & Settlement System - PAPSS is revolutionalising Africa's payment ecosystem. We look forward to continuing the conversation at CANEX at IATF2025 in Algiers this September — the continent’s biggest marketplace for creatives, investors, and policymakers. • Can Africa Industrialise Through Trade—On Its Own Terms? Today at the Africa CEO Forum #ACF2025, Prof. Benedict Oramah, President of Afreximbank, delivered a compelling intervention on one of the continent’s defining questions: Can Africa achieve industrialisation powered by trade and driven by its own priorities? In a dynamic conversation with Nicholas Norbrook, who aptly described him as “the Carlo Ancelotti of Development and Trade Finance”, Prof. Oramah unpacked Africa’s strategic position within a shifting global order—where multipolarity, rising protectionism, and economic shocks are redefining trade and investment flows. He outlined how Afreximbank, in partnership with key institutions, is driving real change: ▪️Deploying over US$120 billion since 2020 to help Africa manage global shocks through countercyclical financing ▪️Building transformative industrial zones across multiple countries, creating sustainable, high-value jobs ▪️Deepening regional integration through AfCFTA-enabling instruments like Pan-African Payment & Settlement System - PAPSS, AACTG, and the Intra-African Trade Fair IATF ▪️Catalysing value-added production—from processed wood in Gabon to textiles in Benin—reshaping Africa’s trade structure ▪️Strengthening Africa’s financial sovereignty via innovative solutions like AfPAY, accelerating intra-African trade settlement Prof. Oramah reaffirmed his commitment to a legacy built on African self-determination—where trade is not just a tool for growth, but a foundation for transformation. Afreximbank is not only financing trade—we are shaping the future of African industrialisation. #Afreximbank #ACF2025 #AfCFTA #GlobalAfrica #IndustrialiseAfrica #TradeFinance #PAPSS #IATF2025
