“I'm honored to share the impactful Keynote speech video of H.E. DÉBORA KATISA CARVALHO, The First Lady of the Cabo Verde and Ambassador of Merck Foundation More Than a Mother delivered during the inauguration of the 11th Edition of the annual conference, 'Merck Foundation Africa Asia Luminary'. This event, held under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of Tanzania, and in partnership with the Government of Tanzania, took place on the 29th and 30th of October in Dar es Salaam.
In her speech, she proudly expressed, 'I am delighted to join you at the 11th Edition of the prestigious Merck Foundation Africa Asia Luminary Conference. I extend my heartfelt greetings to my dear sisters, the First Ladies of Africa, who are also my fellow Ambassadors of the Merck Foundation More Than a Mother.
I take great pride in my role as the Ambassador of “Merck Foundation More Than a Mother” campaign to empower infertile women through access to information, education, change of mindset.
I am fully aware of the severe stigma faced by infertile women, which often subjects them to emotional and physical hardship. This stigma, driven by societal pressures and misconceptions about fertility, highlights the urgent need for change, understanding, and support.
I am happy to have initiated our advocacy and awareness efforts for overcoming this stigma.
We are working on is the “Educating Linda” program, through which we have sponsored the education of 40 top-performing girls in secondary school until their graduation.
Excellencies, the remarkable achievements in enhancing healthcare capacity through the Merck Foundation Scholarship programs in your countries are truly inspiring. I am eager to initiate this program in my own country, in collaboration with our Ministry of Health. We will soon begin enrolling our local doctors in many critical and underserved specialties provided by the Merck Foundation, ensuring that our people benefit from this program. I am confident that by the time we meet again, I will have significant numbers to share with all of you.'
Stay tuned for more inspiring updates!"
