Mrs. MONICA CHAKWERA from the 10th Edition of Merck Foundation Africa Asia Luminary – 2023. She expressed, "It is with a great pleasure to be present here as the Guest of Honour for 10th Edition of Merck Foundation Africa Asia Luminary 2023 with my dear sisters, the First Ladies of Africa. Our partnership with Merck Foundation began when I started working with Senator, Dr Rasha in 2020, and there has been continuous progress since then. I would like to share with you all the impact of our programs and would like to start with a program very close to my heart- “Educating Linda” a program that supports girls to continue their education. Ladies and Gentlemen, supporting girl education is a very important pillar of my office strategy. I very strongly believe that investing in girls’ education transforms communities and countries. Girls who receive education are less likely to marry young and more likely to lead healthy and productive lives. They earn higher incomes, participate in the decisions, and build better futures for not only themselves but also their families, they are also more likely will understand their rights and have access to information, health and change of mindset so they will not suffer infertility stigma because they will be more than just mothers. Therefore, I consider this program is a twin program to “More than a Mother” campaign and part of my role as an Ambassador of this campaign. Thanks to our long-term partnership with Merck Foundation and my dear sister Senator, Dr. Rasha Kelej, and Prof Frank, we are transforming the patient care in Malawi, and we hope to benefit more young Malawian doctors nationwide.” We are making history together.
