  • Afreximbank Highlights Africa's Path to Prosperity at Access Bank Trade Conference Mrs. Kanayo Awani, Executive Vice President for Intra-African Trade and Export Development at Afreximbank, delivered a keynote yesterday at the Access Bank Plc 2025 Africa Trade Conference in Cape Town. Under the theme "Navigating the Future of Trade in Africa: Opportunities and Challenges," she articulated the urgent need for Africa to seize control of its economic destiny by deepening intra-African trade and fortifying its financial systems. In her keynote address, Mrs. Awani emphasized the urgency for Africa to deepen intra-African trade to overcome the challenges of shifting global dynamics and rising protectionism. She highlighted that strengthening regional value chains is crucial for the continent’s economic resilience and growth. Afreximbank has been promoting intra-African trade since its launch of its Intra-African Trade Strategy in 2016, facilitating over $20 billion in trade finance and supporting over 130,000 African SMEs. With the AfCFTA in effect, the Bank plans to provide $40 billion in trade financing, further dismantling trade barriers, enhancing payment systems like Pan-African Payment & Settlement System - PAPSS, and supporting industrial development. Mrs. Awani also addressed the critical need to strengthen Africa's financial architecture, which remains dominated by foreign institutions. Afreximbank actively supports African banks and investors in ensuring financial resources are controlled and deployed within Africa. At the closing ceremony, Afreximbank was honored with the "Champion of Intra-African Trade" award. #Afreximbank #IntraAfricanTrade #TradeFinance #AfCFTA
